Obituary of Amanda Simmons

Amanda H. Simmons 94 of Oxford NJ died on Saturday morning, August 13th, at the home of her daughters in Washington Twp NJ. Born in Rockport NJ, July 30, 1911. She was the daughter of the late Meisse and Clara Nunn Hildabrand. She had been a seamstress at the former Karen Lu in Washington NJ retiring many years. She had also worked at Oxwall tool and dye in Oxford NJ Her Husband Michael preceded her in death in 1978, She was also predeceased by a daughter Dorothy Jensen and two grandchildren. Two brothers Sam and John and 4 sisters, Ruth Hess, Beatrice Coban, Eva Gardner and Etta “Tommie” Palmer all died earlier She was on the Oxford Election Board for over 20 year retiring last year. She crocheted Lap Robes for the Veterans at the VA Hospital, often competing 60 in a year. Leo Becker would then pick them up and deliver them to the hospital for here. Memberships: She was a member of the Summerfield Methodist church and had in her earlier years attended the Colonial Methodist church in Oxford. She was a member of the Woman’s society of the Methodist church. She had also been a member of the Oxford Fire Company Ladies Auxillary. Survivors: A son Michael and his wife Linda Simmons of Oxford NJ, a daughter Joyce Szucs and her husband Robert of Washington Twp (Warren County) NJ 8 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-great Grandchildren survive her. Services: Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM, in the DeVoe Funeral Service, 136 West Washington Ave Washington NJ, Funeral Services will be Wednesday 10 AM in the Funeral Home.
