Obituary of William Earl Dean

William "Bill" Earl Dean, 93, of Belvidere, NJ went to be with his Savior, Jesus on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital in Lyons, NJ.

Bill was born in Easton, PA on March 19, 1924, the son of the late Charles and Lillian (Bates) Dean.

Having served as a corrections officer for over 23 years at the Warren County Correctional Center, Bill retired in 1990 as the Deputy Warden, but he never lost his passion for sharing the love of Jesus with inmates, volunteering in several local correctional centers after his retirement.

He was a member of the United States Marine Corp during World War II serving in the South Pacific and was awarded a purple heart after being wounded in combat.

Bill was a longtime attendee of Mount Bethel Church in Mount Bethel PA, a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Glen Gardner, NJ, and a previous member of Gideons International. He was the sole surviving, charter member of the Northampton County Detachment of the Marine Corp League in Easton, PA.  Bill belonged to the Christian Motorcycle Association of America and enjoyed riding his motorcycle until well into his 80's.  For more than 25 years, he and his wife conducted summer church services at Triplebrook Campground in Hope, NJ, a place that holds fond memories for the whole family.

Surviving Bill is his wife of 43 years, Faye (Davis) Dean, three sons: Joshua I. Dean of Skillman, NJ, Caleb M. Dean of Harmony Twp, NJ, D. William “Billy” Dean of East Bangor, PA; three daughters: Carol Silfies of Easton, PA, Cynthia Reagle of Easton, PA, and Deborah Brumbaugh of Wind Gap, PA; eleven grandchildren: John, Jacqueline, April, Deborah, Mark, Bruce, Kelli, Rachel, Zachary, Samuel and Rebecca; and seven great-grandchildren.

The viewing will be this Sunday, October 1 from3 to 6PM and Monday (10/2) from 10:30 to 11AM followed by a funeral service at 11:30AM.  All events will be held at Mount Bethel Church, 1270 Belvidere Corner Rd., Mt Bethel, PA 18343. The graveside service will follow at the Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made in Bill's memory to Americas Keswick- Colony of Mercy, 601 Rte 530, Whiting, NJ 08759,  an addiction recovery ministry that he supported for decades.

 

The DeVoe Funeral Service has been entrusted with his arrangements.
