Obituary of Gerald William Beyer
Gerald William Beyer, 83, passed away suddenly on March 31, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Born on June 12, 1941, to the late Imelda Beyer and William Peroutka, Gerald’s father passed away when he was very young, and he was lovingly raised by his mother and adoptive father, Charlie Beyer.
Gerald graduated from Nutley High School in 1959 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. After college, he married the love of his life, Grace Beyer (neé Bernath), with whom he shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised their family in Washington, New Jersey, and were blessed with three children: Gerald Jr., Valerie, and Glenn.
A dedicated professional, Gerald worked in the pharmaceutical industry and retired as the Director of Inventory Management with Pfizer in Morris Plains, New Jersey. He was a man of the Presbyterian faith and a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington for decades.
Gerald was passionate about lifelong learning, particularly in health-related topics, and enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, and playing Scrabble. He cherished family vacations to Wildwood Beach and treasured time spent with his loved ones.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Grace Beyer; son Gerry Beyer Jr. and his wife Cathy Campbell; daughter Valerie Tredway and her husband Chris; son Glenn Beyer; brother Clifford Beyer; sister Beverly Beyer; and grandchildren Alexa and Brendan Tredway. Gerald was predeceased by his parents Imelda Beyer, Charlie Beyer, and William Peroutka.
Family and friends are invited to visitation at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, located at 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington, New Jersey 07882, on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Gerald will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Hackettstown Union Cemetery.
