Obituary of Helen Marie Hoffman
Helen Marie Hoffman, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on April 2, 2026.
Born in Morristown, New Jersey, and raised in Washington, Helen was the daughter of the late Patrick and Charlotte McDermott. She attended Washington High School and developed a strong work ethic early in life. One of her first jobs was at the Dandy Kitchen, owned by her brother-in-law. She later worked in the garment industry in Washington before returning to school to pursue a career in healthcare. Helen went on to serve as a dedicated cardiac monitor technician at Warren Hospital, where she worked for over 25 years until her retirement.
Above all else, Helen was a proud and devoted mother to her children, Roseann, Merlin, and the late Cindy. In her later years, she cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, finding immense joy in her family.
Helen was known for her warmth, generosity, and open heart. No matter the time of day—whether a visit was planned or a surprise—she welcomed everyone into her home with a loving greeting, a fresh cup of coffee, and often a full meal. Her home was truly a place of comfort and togetherness.
She also found great happiness in gardening. At the first signs of spring, Helen could be found outside tending to her flower beds, carefully planning and nurturing the blooms that surrounded her home. She took great pride in maintaining a beautiful and immaculate yard.
Helen is survived by her loving daughter, Roseann Miksch; her son, Merlin Hoffman and his wife, Darlene; her son-in-law, Robert Widdoss; her sister, Barbara “Cookie” Thompson; her grandchildren, Michael Miksch and his wife, Kathy, Jessica Miksch and her fiancé, Timothy Lutz, Brian Widdoss, Jason Widdoss and his wife, Jennifer, and Erica Mayo and her husband, David; and her great-grandchildren, Kaidryn, Jaxson, and Bryson.
In a deeply poignant loss, Helen’s beloved daughter, Cindy Widdoss, entered into eternal rest just ten hours after her mother.
In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her sisters, Ruther Carey and her husband, Sam, Elizabeth “Betty” Proctor, and Mary “Rose” Stanton; her brother, Robert McDermott and his wife, Dorothy; and her granddaughter, Rachel Miksch.
A Memorial Gathering of Family and Friends will be held to honor both Helen and her daughter, Cindy, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
