Jay Unangst

Obituary of Jay Robert Unangst

Jay "Skip" Robert Unangst, of Harmony Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 3, 2026.

Born on October 10, 1950, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Skip was the son of the late Jay C. and Verna (Steele) Unangst. He graduated from Belvidere High School with the Class of 1969 and, later in life, earned a degree from Allentown Business School.

Skip began his career at Flock Industries before spending many years with Lipton Tea, where he dedicated the majority of his working life. Following his time at Lipton, he continued his career with the State of New Jersey until his retirement.

Skip found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid music lover, with The Beatles always among his favorite bands, and had a special appreciation for the Ford Edsel. A true handyman, he took pride in completing every home improvement project himself. He enjoyed watching arena football, taking drives in his Jeep, and spending cherished time with his grandsons. Known for his friendly personality, Skip never met a stranger and was always happy to strike up a conversation with anyone he encountered.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Casey Unangst (Cody Anderson) and Corey Unangst; his grandsons, Kai and Hunter Anderson; his brother, Bruce Unangst; his niece, nephews, numerous cousins; and his beloved dog, Bruno.

In addition to his parents, Skip was predeceased by his brother, Donald Unangst, and by his cherished canine companions, Big Dog, Bubba Dog, and Baby Dog.

Skip will be laid to rest at Montana Cemetery in Harmony Township, New Jersey at a later date.

In lieu of services, memorial donations may be made in Skip's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause that was close to his heart.
