Obituary of Kenneth Morley Wilson Jr.

Kenneth Morley Wilson Jr., age 79, passed away peacefully on July 12,2026 at his home in Washington, New Jersey, with his beloved wife, MaryLynn, by his side.

Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Ken was the son of the late Jean Gabel and Kenneth Morley Wilson Sr. He spent his childhood throughout New England, with the majority of his formative years in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School in 1964. He continued his education at the University of Utah, earning his bachelor's degree in 1969.

Following college, Ken embraced his adventurous spirit and traveled extensively throughout the world, spending an extended period exploring Europe. Upon returning home, he proudly served his country as a reservist in the United States Army for seven years.

During his college years, Ken discovered a lifelong passion for geology and astronomy, interests that would shape much of his personal and professional life. He worked with the United States Geological Survey before returning to school to pursue a degree in technology. He then enjoyed a long and successful career as a computer analyst with Chase Bank, where he remained until his retirement.

On April 1, 1995, Ken married the love of his life, MaryLynn Butner-Wilson, after the two met through the Sperry Observatory Astronomy Club in Cranford, New Jersey. Together, they eventually made their home in Washington, New Jersey, where they delighted in the beauty of the night sky and the vastness of the universe. Whether through telescopes, cameras, or simply a pair of binoculars, the stars and planets were a constant source of wonder and joy for them both.

Throughout his life, Ken was an active member of numerous astronomy, geology, and mineralogy clubs. He also found great satisfaction in woodworking, creating with his hands and approaching each project with the same curiosity and dedication that defined his many pursuits.

Ken will be remembered for his inquisitive mind, his love of learning, his appreciation for the natural world, and his unwavering sense of wonder about the universe. Above all, he will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, MaryLynn Butner-Wilson; his sister, Patricia Hallinger, and her husband, Jeffrey of Cape Coral, Florida; and many dear friends and fellow enthusiasts whose lives were enriched by his friendship and shared passions.

Ken was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Morley Wilson Sr., and his mother, Jean Gabel.

In accordance with Ken's wishes, cremation services will be held privately.
