Obituary of Alan James Sederis

Alan James Sederis, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on July 14, 2026, one day after celebrating his birthday. Born on July 13, 1950, in Passaic, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Angelo James and Dorothy Sederis.

Alan grew up in Passaic and Allamuchy, and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1970. He continued his education at Wilmington University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. A proud patriot, Alan honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1981.

Following his military service, Alan enjoyed a long and varied career. He first worked in customer service for Coopers & Lybrand in Paterson, New Jersey, then spent several years in automobile sales before finding his professional home at Sears, where he worked as a sales associate until his retirement.

On July 1, 1989, Alan married the love of his life, Kathleen C. Prisco, in Allamuchy, New Jersey. Together they built a beautiful life in Washington, New Jersey, where they raised their two daughters, Amanda and Amy. Though he was their stepfather, Amanda and Amy never felt anything less than completely loved as his own. Alan proudly introduced them simply as his daughters and cherished every moment he spent with them.

Family meant everything to Alan. He was caring, thoughtful, and devoted, never letting a day pass without checking in on those he loved. Holidays were especially dear to him, and he treasured the time spent gathered with family, creating countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Alan was also a lifelong animal lover, especially devoted to his beloved cats, Sunshine, Bubbles, Tinkerbell, SuBu, and Priscilla. He and Kathy shared a love of travel, enjoying many trips to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and countless cruises throughout the Caribbean, finding something special on each and every island they visited.

A military enthusiast and history scholar, Alan had a deep appreciation for learning and for the sacrifices of those who served. In recent years, his daughters admired him for his unwavering positivity, his refusal to complain, and his remarkable ability to face life's challenges with grace, focus, and determination.

Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Kathleen Sederis; his daughters, Amanda Passman and her husband, Eric, and Amy Semeniuk and her husband, Robert; his sisters, Beverly Frett and her husband, Michael, and Virginia Hillhouse and her husband, Joe; his cherished grandchildren, Emma, Kylie, Merryn, and Olivia; his nephew, Sam Hillhouse; his niece, Christine Witkowski and her husband, Jack; and his niece, Karen Zeilenga and her husband, Jason, along with their children, Zoe and Amber.

In addition to his parents, Angelo James and Dorothy Sederis, Alan was preceded in death by many beloved pets who brought him great joy throughout his life.

In accordance with Alan's wishes, cremation will be held privately. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 29th, 2026 from 9am until 11am at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home and Cremation Service, located at 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington, New Jersey 07882, A Catholic Prayer service will follow the visitation immedatily at 11am Inurnment to follow at Washington's Crossing National Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alan's memory may be made to the USO, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Disabled American Veterans Association, or the Pet Adoption League of Hackettstown, New Jersey.

Alan's kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
