Obituary of Harold Marlin Smith

Harold Marlin Smith, age 95, of Washington, NJ, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023.  Born November 25, 1927, in Gettysburg, PA, Harold was the son of the late Charles Smith and the late Esther (nee Stevens) Smith.

Harold was a 1945 graduate of Gettysburg High School.  He was enlisted in the US Army in 1946 and served our country as an Army Sergeant until 1948. During his service he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, as well as the World War II Victory Medal. Harold married the love of his life, Ada "Betty" Elizabeth (nee Brooks). Together they raised their two daughters; Kim and Tara, who he adored. After retiring, Harold worked as “The V.P. of the Happy Face Sticker Division at the local Wal-Mart”.

Harold was an avid lifetime gardener. He enjoyed spending time at the Washington Community Garden tending to his plants.  He was a devoted lifetime fan of the Philadelphia Eagles as well as the NY Mets. During football and baseball season, he could often be found cheering them on.  When he got older, Harold became a member of the Washington Community Senior Center where he developed many friendships. Most of all, Harold loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who gave him great joy.

Harold will be forever missed by his daughters, Kim E. Kerper and her husband Kert, and Tara L. Cifelli; granddaughter, Aliayh Smith; grandsons, Michael Hendershot, and Landon Kerper; sisters, Dolores Huslin of Philadelphia, PA, and Eleanor Kuhn of Gettysburg, PA; many loving nieces and nephews; and his dear gardening partner, Verdell Stebbing.
