Obituary of Harvey Arthur Bowlby

Harvey Arthur Bowlby, 85, a lifelong resident of Washington, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 20, 2023, at his home with his beloved family by his side. He was born on October 27, 1938, he was the son of the late Harvey Apgar Bowlby and the late Sybilla Mae (née Sherman) Bowlby.

Harvey was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1956. He married his soulmate on March 30, 1963, and together they raised 3 beautiful children, Linda, Donna Jane and Carl.

Harvey worked for Van Doren Oil Company for over 30 years. He had a passion for trains, whether as a railfan or with his own model train sets that he collected. He also was a gardener and enjoyed sacred organ music especially JS Bach, he could even play the organ. In retirement, Harvey had a real sweet tooth, he loved his chocolate chip cookies and a good dish of ice cream. Most of all throughout his life, Harvey was a true family man, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife Dot and being around his kids and grandkids. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy "Dot" Bowlby; daughters, Linda Kaltenbach and her husband Steve, Donna Jane Bowlby and her companion Paul; son, Carl Bowlby and his wife Betty; granddaughter Megan and grandson Thomas. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Harvey will be greatly missed by his cats, Andy, Missy and Kit Kat.

He was predeceased by sister, Jane Keenan and his brothers Harold, Donald, and Joseph.

The Bowlby family would like to thank Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice for the excellent care that Harvey received in his final days.

A celebration of Harvey's life will be held at the United Methodist Church in Washington NJ. The date and times have not been finalized yet.
