Bessie Novela Owens, 83 of Oxford, NJ died Monday, November 7, 2005 at Warren Haven Nursing Home, Mansfield, NJ. Born November 16, 1921 in Magnolia Park, TX Bessie was a Home Maker and daughter of the late Alge Ross and the late Eva Josephine (Spinks) James. Bessie was married to Owen M. Owens who passed away in 1977. She came to this area from Houston, TX. Bessie was also preceded in death by a son; David N. Owens and two sisters; Ethel Buchanan and Edith McFarlin. Memberships: Bessie was a member of the Apostolic Christian Ministries at 431 West Hill Rd., Glen Gardner, NJ 08826. Survivors: Daughter Mary Liller Glen Gardner, NJ; Son James R. Owens Livingston, TX; Son Kenneth W. Owens Trinity, TX; Brother Alge Ross James, Jr. Crockett, TX; Grandchildren Ten; Great-grandchildren Thirteen; Services: Friends may call Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave, Washington, NJ. Even though we were parted by miles and wasn't able to visit much. The times we did visit with her we enjoyed not only her fellowship but also her very wonderful cooking. We remember her as a very giving person, loving mother and grandmother with a very joyful spirit about her. We know in the arms of God she is now free to worship without pain and suffering. She will be greatly missed and holidays will not be the same without her. I am so thankful that my children got to know her and that she was such a major part of my life. I can not remember a day of my childhood without her in it. She was always there. I know that her prayers have kept me and my family in the will of God and that they have protected me in times I was in trouble. She is no longer suffering, Hallelujah! For she is with Jesus and she has a new body and is in the Holy presence of God Almighty! Granny I can not wait to see you again. When youngsters we were near the same age and enjoyed each other. Then as adults, her family and mine were very close. We usually spent special holidays and summer get-togethers, at their home in Porter.They had a nice quiet place where the children could run and play together. As time past, and Owen had gone to be with the Lord, our families grew apart. Our children had grown up and gone to different parts of the world. We do miss those times together but know that we can spend eternity together,if each of us accept Jesus Christ as our savior. This is how Bessie tried to show the young ones to live their lives. She was a good example to all who knew her.
