Obituary of Robert Smith

Robert C. Smith, 82, formerly of Hampton, NJ passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Warren Haven Nursing Home, Oxford, NJ. Robert was born on March 15, 1926 in Phillipsburg, NJ a son of the late Lloyd and the late Blanche (Riddle) Smith. He graduated from Hampton High School and attended Drake Business School, Newark NJ. Robert proudly served during World War II in the United States Armyfrom 1944 – 1946 serving in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed by Agway Feed, Inc. of Flemington as an Assistant Manger retiring in 1976. Memberships:Robert was a former member of Spruce Run Lutheran Church, Glen Gardner and a former VP of the Spruce Run Cemetery Association. He was also a former member of various organizations which include, Masonic Lodge Host #6, High Bridge, NJ serving as a past Master, the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #512, Washington NJ; the Order f the Eastern Star #136; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; VFW Post, Washington, NJ. He was a former State Aid to Senator Wayne DuMont and was employed as a Tax Collector in Hampton, NJ. Survivors: Robert is predeceased by his wife, the former Charlotte Young, who died in 1983. Also predeceasing Robert is his daughter Karen Smith and his brother, John W. Smith who passed away in 1997. He is survived by three sons, Daniel R. Smith, Jr. and his wife & Joanne of Asbury, NJ; Robert C Smith of Scranton, PA; Randal C. Smith, Sr. of Glen Gardner, NJ; two daughters, Pamela Bowlby and her husband William P. of Hampton, NJ; Debra Brandt and her husband Daniel M. of Asbury, NJ; a brother, Delbert Smith of Washington, NJ; two sisters Elizabeth Sliker of Hampton, NJ; Joan Carling of Hampton, NJ; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren . Services: Friends may call Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave, Washington, NJ. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave, Washington. Interment will follow the service in Musconetcong Valley Cemetery, Hampton, NJ.
