Obituary of Thomas J Vence

Thomas J. Vence, age 58, of Washington, NJ died suddenly on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Thomas was born October 1, 1962 in Newark, NJ. He is the son of the late Richard Vence and Arlene (Howard) Vence. He married Diane McConnell.

Raised in Elizabeth NJ, Tom graduated from Elizabeth High School Class of 1980 and was employed by the City Of Elizabeth as a technician for over thirty seven years. He enjoyed playing guitar and was an avid watch collector. He was a wonderful, talented man with the best sense of humor, and he will be deeply missed forever.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Diane (McConnell) Vence; mother, Arlene (Howard) Vence; his six children, Jennifer, Julie, John, Justin, Rachel and Lianna; sister: Jacqueline Wood and husband Eddie of Elizabeth, NJ and brother, Richard Vence and wife Suzanne of Broadheadsville, PA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Richard T. Vence and brother, Michael Vence.

Relatives and friends may gather with the family on Monday December 21, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington NJ 07882. We ask all who wish to attend the gathering at the funeral home to please wear a face covering and follow all COVID-19 restrictions.

A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Phillipsburg Alliance Church, 285 Grant Street, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865 with Pastor Randy Nelson officiating. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church on Tuesday morning. Interment will follow at Greenwich Cemetery. The church service will be livestreamed through the Phillipsburg Alliance Church YouTube Channel
