Obituary of Dorothy Gail Zarnowski

Dorothy Gail Zarnowski, 69, of Washington, passed away peacefully on March 10 th , 2023 at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home For Hospice. Dorothy was born on September 16 th , 1953 in Somerville, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Andrew and the late Kathryn (née Van Fleet) Vayda. Dorothy was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1971. On August 23 rd , 1986 Dorothy married her beloved husband Michael Zarnowski and together they shared almost 35 years. Dorothy and Michael lost their first child Nicole Marie very shortly after her birth and faced the pain of losing a child, but never stopped wanting to share their love and their lives with a child of their own. Dorothy and Michael adopted their daughter Ashley in 1998 and never stopped loving her and supporting her throughout her whole life. To anyone who knew Dorothy, her daughter Ashley was her world.

Dorothy leaves behind such a beautiful life and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of calling her family or friend. Dorothy always kept in touch with her friends even those around the world from New Zealand and Europe. Dorothy worked for many years at Chubb Insurance as an accounting services representative and kept in touch with all of her coworkers. In her free time Dorothy enjoyed reading and could often be found at the library. Dorothy also enjoyed playing with and training her three dogs Cici, Paco, and the late Lex.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband Michael John Zarnowski, and by her daughter Ashley Zarnowski and her fiancé Nicholas Hurlburt.

Dorothy is predeceased by her daughter Nicole Marie Zarnowski, and by her parents Andrew and Kathryn Vayda.

In lieu of flowers donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Dorothy’s family would also like to thank the staff of Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice for all of the support and dedication they have in helping those in the toughest of times.

In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes cremation will be held privately under the direction of Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
