Obituary of Edward Reynolds Johnson Sr.

Edward R. Johnson Sr., 90, formerly of High Bridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 15 th , 2023. Edward was born October 10 th , 1932 to the late Catherine and John Johnson in High Bridge, New Jersey. He was raised in High Bridge and once he was old enough Edward joined the United States Army. During his time of service he was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1954. Upon his return to the States Edward fell in love with Marlene Miller who became his wife shortly after, for almost 60 years before her passing in 2015. Throughout his life Edward worked as a custodian at Voorhees High School for almost 30 years. Edward also worked as a long haul trucker and loved to share his stories of driving around the country especially the one where he led a 29 truck convoy into Chicago.

Edward and Marlene also raised the one and only son Edward Johnson Jr. whom they both adored. Edward Jr. remembers his father as a strong, hard working man, but also as a kind and fun loving dad. Edward was a huge fan of wrestling and followed everything from the local traveling shows to the WWE. In fact, back in the day, Edward could be found every 1 st Friday at the Wharton VFW where they would host wrestling events, including the D2W Wrestling show. His favorites though were Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, Seth Rollins, and of course Miss Elizabeth and Becky Lynch. Edward was also a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. Edward was also a fan of racing and even shared ownership in a dirt track car that he used to race down at the old Flemington dirt track. Edward was also a fan of bluegrass music and could often be found listening to Bill Monroe and Jimmy Dickens.

Edward is survived by his son Edward R. Johnson Jr. and his girlfriend Robbin Lee, nephews; James Fox, Ronald Pearson, Clark Fox Jr., and Billy Clawson,by his niece Karen Pearson, and many more nieces and nephews. 

Edward is predeceased by his beloved wife Marlene B. Johnson, his mother Catherine A. Johnson, his father John G. Johnson, brothers; John A. Johnson, and Harry Johnson, and by his sisters; Kathleen Ann Pearson, Rose Clawson, and Beatrice Fox Daley.
