Alan Keggan

Obituary of Alan Robert Keggan

Alan R. Keggan, 80, of Port Murray, New Jersey passed away on July 26, 2023 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Alan was born on February 20, 1943 to the late Elizabeth and Roland Keggan in Glen Gardner, New Jersey. Alan grew up on the family farm in High Bridge and graduated from North Hunterdon High School in 1961 before attending Rutgers University. Alan’s early career spanned multiple fields before finding his passion working with heavy machinery at Foley Caterpillar Equipment in Piscataway, New Jersey.  Alan started as a trainee and retired as lead field service technician after 42 years. While Alan truly enjoyed his career, what he loved most was his wife, Diane, and his family. Alan and Diane met on a blind date, were engaged in two weeks, and married within a year. The former Ms. Diane Ciszkowski was the love of Alan’s life. Together Alan and Diane raised three children: Jennifer, Shaun, and Alison, whom he adored.

Throughout his life Alan always placed an emphasis on being a loving husband, father, and most recently grandfather; he took great pride in his family. He was also one of the most sought after and highly respected service technicians in his field and loved that his job took him on the road. Alan was a member of the Operating Engineers Union #825 and enjoyed the fellowship he had with so many colleagues over the years. When Alan was home, he still enjoyed working with his hands and did many restoration projects on old equipment that he would bring back to their glory days. Alan belonged to St. Theodore Roman Catholic Church. He also served on the Mansfield Township Land Use Board and sought to improve the community he called home.

Alan will be forever missed by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years Diane Keggan, daughter Jennifer Keggan and her fiancé David Kercher, son Shaun Keggan and his wife Emily, daughter Dr. Alison Stout and her husband Steve, granddaughter Raelyn Keggan, and by his brother Roland Keggan and his wife Mary.

Alan is predeceased by his parents Roland and Elizabeth Keggan.
